Position Announcement The Department of Anthropology at the University of Oregon seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in biological anthropology to begin on September 16, 2018. We seek an outstanding, broadly-trained evolutionary biological anthropologist who will complement, not duplicate, the existing strengths within the department. Examples of possible specialties include, but are not limited to, human evolutionary biology, evolutionary medicine, evolutionary anatomy, paleobiology, and paleogenomics. The successful candidate is expected to conduct a rigorous, fieldwork and/or laboratory based, externally-funded research program as well as teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. is required by September 15, 2018. Postdoctoral experience and an established publication record are preferred.

Department or Program Summary The Department of Anthropology at the University of Oregon is comprised of an interdisciplinary group of faculty and students who have strong connections to other units on campus, including the Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Environmental Studies Program, Museum of Natural and Cultural History, Center for Global Health, African Studies Program, Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies, and the Center for the Study of Women and Society. Our department was ranked among the best doctoral programs in anthropology by the National Research Council and is one of the top graduate programs at the UO. Located 110 miles south of Portland, the University of Oregon has an enrollment of over 20,000 students. The Eugene metro area (pop. 370,000) is in a region noted for its dynamic quality of life and progressive cultural environment, and we are about an hour drive from the Pacific coast and the Cascade mountains. The University is an AAU research institution, an R1 Doctoral University, and a member of the Pac-12 conference.
