Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology to begin September 1, 2018.
Major/Essential Functions: The teaching assignment for this position will include three courses per semester and a possible one-month experiential course taught in January (depending on candidate interest and the needs of the College). Primary teaching responsibilities will include two sections of cultural anthropology, two topical area courses of the candidate’s choosing (e.g., Psychological Anthropology, Anthropology of Religion, Political Anthropology), and a geographical area course appropriate to the candidate’s expertise (preferably related to Latin America, the Caribbean, or indigenous North American populations, but open to other areas). Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in anthropology, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience teaching undergraduate students preferred. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
