The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2019. Completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire.
The successful candidate will be a specialist in Contemporary Latin American and/or Contemporary Peninsular Spanish theater, and will demonstrate knowledge about current trends in performance studies. Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarship in theater has a trans-Atlantic perspective, and who have a demonstrable interest in staging a play with students. Normal teaching load is 5 courses per year. Teaching responsibilities include Spanish language and literature courses from the intermediate to the advanced seminar level. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The position offers the possibility of joining the rotation for directing Colgate’s semester-long program of study in Madrid and for active participation in interdisciplinary programs such as Women’s Studies, LGBTQ Studies, and Africana and Latin American Studies.
