Assistant Professor of Spanish (Latin American Cultural Studies and/or Literature)
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at Saint Joseph’s University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Spanish at the Assistant Professor level to begin on August 16, 2019. Specialization must be in a field related to Latin American Cultural Studies and/or Literature, with a preference for Mexico, Central America, and/or Latinx studies. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in hand by August 16, 2019.
Normal teaching load is three courses per semester at various levels. Candidate must demonstrate excellence in language teaching, which includes a solid commitment to a proficiency-based and communicative language approach. Teaching responsibilities will include Spanish courses at all levels from the beginning level through Conversation, Composition, and Latin American Cultural Studies and/or Literature. Training and experience in teaching Spanish for the Professions, developing service-learning courses, and/or supervising internships are also highly valued. Candidate must have native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English, and also show evidence of active scholarship and a solid research agenda. Duties and Responsibilities:
Successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching language, a strong and viable research agenda in an ongoing, active program of scholarly productivity; and willingness to participate in service to the department, college and university. The teaching load is 3/3 and will include teaching courses within the candidate’s specialty as well as courses that serve the General Education Program.
