The Department of Political Science seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Comparative Politics, broadly defined. We are open with respect to methodological approach and substantive and/or regional area of interest.
We seek a scholar whose work is focused on the urgent and perennial questions of world politics. These are now, and for the next several decades, likely to be concerned with processes of democratization, threats to democracy, causes of global inequality, challenges to national identity posed by migration, the political economy of changing modes of production, the regional and global impact of climate change, and how social movements succeed or fail. We are open with respect to the successful candidate’s areas of interest and expertise which could include but are not restricted to the above questions and other interests such as diaspora, Native American and comparative Indigenous politics, human rights, authoritarianism or non-violent political change.
Successful candidates will contribute to the intellectual diversity of the department. They should be able to teach introductory undergraduate courses and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in comparative politics. They may also teach in their substantive area of expertise.
Boston University is an exciting place in which to study and teach politics. It has internationally known regionally focused centers, e.g. an African Studies Center and a Center for the Study of Europe. Other centers focus on religion, gender and sexuality, cities, and long-range futures.
