R0010772 Assistant or Associate Professor of American Studies
The Program in American Studies at the University of Virginia invites applications for a position in Latinx Studies, at the assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate (tenured) levels. Anticipated start date is August 25, 2020. Applicants must have a record of interdisciplinary research and/or teaching in Latinx Studies. The American Studies program at the University of Virginia is comprised of faculty whose work engages methodologies that range across the humanities and social sciences. Faculty engage with other projects taking shape at the university, including, but not limited to, studies of comparative race and ethnicity, the Americas, and the Global South. A new colleague may be interested in an approach that extends beyond the limits of one or another discipline within the interdisciplinary scope of Latinx Studies. The Program in American Studies is especially, though not exclusively, interested in candidates' whose research focuses on histories of one or multiple diasporic groups, on past or contemporary social movements, on ideas of peoplehood or Latinx political influence in the United States, on religious and other cultural practices.
Applicants at the assistant professor rank must hold a PhD at the time of appointment. Applicants at the associate professor rank must hold a Ph.D. at the time of application and must have a strong publication and teaching record. Review of applications will begin on Nov. 15th.
