The Department of Politics and Public Administration in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Comparative Politics. While the position is open with respect to substantive focus, the Department is particularly interested in candidates studying Latin America. The appointment shall be effective July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.
The candidate will be able to immediately contribute to the Department’s undergraduate programs in Politics and Governance (BA); Public Administration and Governance (BA) ; and graduate program in Public Policy and Administration (MA). The candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved with other interdisciplinary graduate programs in the Faculty of Arts and the University. Indigenous Scholars, depending on programme needs and subject to the approval of the Chair and Dean, may also participate in the collaborative public administration and governance program (BA) delivered in partnership with the First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI).

Responsibilities will include research, teaching and supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and taking an active role in the life of the Department. The new faculty member will be expected to: establish and maintain a strong, active, externally-funded research program; take an active role in teaching and mentoring students; collaborate with colleagues and other university departments, partners, and the community; and be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field by the appointment date, July 1, 2020. Candidates must have a strong research profile (e.g., evidence of an emerging scholarly record, ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program); evidence of potential for high-quality teaching, and a commitment to collegial service.
