The Center for Latin American Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick), invites applications for a non-renewable two-year Postdoctoral Associate Position from any Latin American studies discipline in the humanities or social sciences. We especially seek to recruit in the fields of Anthropology, Geography, History, Politics, Sociology, and Critical Race, Feminist, Gender, Latin American & Urban Studies. Preference will be given to candidates whose research is empirically and historically grounded and articulates a transnational or hemispheric perspective on Latin America in a changing global context. Any geographic area of specialization will be considered, but specialists on the Northern Triangle whose work engage migration and mobilities, inequality, violence, humanitarianism, social and political movements, social and environmental justice, and indigeneity and Afro-descendant communities, are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Postdoctoral Associate will receive mentorship from the Director and from the Center’s affiliated faculty and support for their research and publication efforts. The duties of the Postdoctoral Associate include research, teaching, and service. The precise area of research will depend on the candidate's field of expertise and can include preparation and publication of articles, books, films, and other forms of scholarly communication. Teaching obligations include a standard teaching load of 2-1 and independent work with individual students as needed. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to participate actively in conferences, workshops, and seminars sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies and to coordinate with the Center's director in organizing our Spring symposium. Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants must have received the Ph.D. between July 1, 2018 and July 1, 2020. Applicants who have not completed their PhD at the time of application will need to provide official institutional verification of completion by July 1, 2020 in order to take up the position.
