Ecole Bilingue Middle School is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Spanish Teacher to join our team of dedicated faculty members for the 2019-20 school year (this is a sabbatical replacement). The position is available ASAP. Under minimal supervision, the ideal candidate will provide an exemplary instructional experience in the classroom, and supports students, parents, and other community members in realizing our Guiding Principles. The Spanish teacher will provide an optimal, age-appropriate Spanish immersion-style classroom learning environment, teaching students the beauty of a second language (Spanish) in an engaging way. At the higher Middle School levels, s/he will prepare students to potentially access higher-level Spanish classes in high school. Finally, the Spanish teacher will serve as a 6th Grade Advisor, and abide by our Framework for Professional Standards.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Spanish teacher will:
Convey enthusiasm for content and intellectual inquiry
Introduce students to both Spanish and Latin American cultures
Promotes field of Spanish education within school community by creating school events, participating in interdisciplinary projects, developing and attending field trips, and building connections with native speakers in local and international communities
Provide an immersive language learning experience that emphasizes speaking
Design projects and courses with an emphasis on teamwork and cooperative learning
Collaborate effectively with students, teachers, and parents
Model flexibility in implementing best learning practices
Support the well-being of all students
Build skills and provide opportunities that help recognize, respect and embrace the diversity of all kinds, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Participate in the greater life of the Middle School division and planning meetings
Serve as a 6th Grade advisor
Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment with clear expectations.
Generate a classroom culture that is engaging, student-focused and effectively managed.
Help with recess, lunch, and advisory duties, take on other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and desired personal qualities:
Bachelor’s degree required in Spanish, Latin American or Spanish Literature with an emphasis in early childhood, elementary and/or middle school education expertise or related areas from a four-year college or university required
3 years of experience teaching Spanish preferred
Native or native-like fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish
Strong knowledge of Spanish and Latin American culture and history
Previous experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Collaborative and collegial attitude
Diligent and well-organized work habits
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Possess a strong commitment to the mission and vision of Ecole Bilingue
