Iona College is interested in hiring a tenure track, assistant professor who specializes in the history of Latin America. Although the search committee will consider candidates with expertise in any area of Latin American history, it would prefer candidates who also possess training in one or more of the following fields: the history of women and gender, the trans-Atlantic slave trade, African history, African diasporic experiences, Indigenous histories in Latin America, decoloniality, Caribbean history, historical archaeology, and the digital humanities. The college seeks to fill this position for the 2020/2021 academic year, and candidates must have a completed PhD by the start of their appointment. Iona College is located in New Rochelle, NY, which is just outside of New York City in Westchester county. It places a strong emphasis on teaching, and successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching as well as scholarly achievement or scholarly potential. The individual who fills this position will be required to teach a full time teaching load (4 courses during each full semester) which will include upper level courses and seminars on the history of Latin America and their secondary field(s). He or she will also be expected to teach survey courses such as HST 101, HST 120, and HST 201 depending on their areas of expertise and the Columba Cornerstone seminar. In addition, the candidate will be expected to become an active participant in departmental affairs and activities, which will require them to contribute to the department’s efforts to build a program in the digital humanities, recruit, retain, and advise students, and build a community among Iona students and faculty. Finally, candidates for this position must pursue scholarly endeavors in their academic field, which must include publications and conference presentations. They must also have relevant teaching experience.
