Dept Marketing Statement The Division of Social Sciences research ranges from global issues to issues of culture and power, including social and economic relations between the U.S. and other nations, the social impacts of technological and environmental change, sustainability of human and ecological systems, and human development and social justice. The division offers eight doctoral programs, two master's and 12 bachelor degrees. Nationally-respected doctoral programs include Anthropology, Economics, Education, Environmental Studies, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. An innovative doctoral program was launched in 2014 in Latin American and Latino Studies. At the Masters level, the division offers degrees in Education and Applied Economics and Finance.
Social science research at UC Santa Cruz is organized within individual departments, as well as research centers, and research clusters that cross disciplinary boundaries.
In 2018-19, social science research generated over $7M in extramural awards. The Research Administration unit works closely with almost 200 faculty and affiliated principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Projects, and Extramural Funds Accounting to provide post-award support for grants, contracts, gifts, and other faculty funding. Staff in the unit managed $9.5M in direct cost expenditures during 2018-19.
Involves the on-site administrative, research, facilities management and / or cultivation functions involved in establishing and maintaining field research sites/ studies for a variety of disciplines (including environmental, public health, social and/or biological sciences). Field research sites / studies span a diverse range of domestic and international regions to support research activities.
Under direct guidance of senior researcher, applies acquired skills and knowledge of applicable research discipline to support field research projects of small to medium size and intermediate scope and complexity, including but not limited to research in environmental, public health, social or biological science disciplines.
This position requires data collection and analysis of existing or publicly available data on Central Valley youth organizing efforts.

Job Duties 30% Responsible for study documentation, logs and reports. Contributes to manuscripts and presentations.
25% Collects publicly available data on youth organizing campaign efforts.
15% Works with project leaders to coordinate research activities, procurement and operation of instrumentation, infrastructure and required field research commodities.
10% Applies learned skills to assess and monitor policies and procedures for remote field sites and / or studies.
10% Supports team to establish procedures, logistics. Assists with development of study protocols.
5% Assists with background research and literature review to support researchers.
5% Contacts community leaders to conduct fact checking regarding youth-led campaign write ups.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Working knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.
Working knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and / or operations being conducted at field / remote sites.
Working knowledge of local customs and operations at field / remote sites.
Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.
Demonstrates ability to work with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Demonstrates attention to detail and organizational skills.
Demonstrates ability to work in ambiguous conditions.
Proficient research and analytical skills.
Demonstrated communication skills with project team members.
Must be familiar with existing youth organizing efforts.
