TheSchool of Engineering at thePontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, one of the leading engineering academic institutions in Latin America and ranked among the top four emerging leaders for engineering education worldwide, invites outstanding candidates for a full-time faculty joint position in the area of Digital Transformation between the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Department of Computer Science.
Digital Transformation is the integration of digital technology into all areas of a business, changing fundamentally how organizations operate and deliver value to their customers. Digital Transformation goes beyond incorporating technology into an organization, focusing on how this technology is assimilated by organizational members and applied to implement new business models and new production processes. A successful Digital Transformation researcher must have a twofold profile: a strong background in Management (e.g., Organizational Behavior, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and/or Sociology), as well as in Computing and Information Systems.
High-quality teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels), and conducting independent research. In teaching, we expect the applicant to be able to teach courses in both the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (e.g., Technology Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, Competitive Intelligence) and the Department of Computer Science (e.g., Information Systems, Digital Transformation and Information Technology, Information Technology Management, IT Strategy). In research, the applicant should conduct research in any of the topics included in Digital Transformation. Additional duties include knowledge transfer, outreach, and university administrative tasks.

A research statement (in English) indicating the immediate and long-term goals of the applicant’s research plan and detailing potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
A teaching statement of purpose (in English) indicating why the applicant should be considered for the position and the plans for teaching. The applicant should be as specific as possible by providing examples of the plan to transfer knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.

If available, copies of five recent Web of Science publications that are relevant to the context of the application (seenote C).

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or be currently pursuing studies towards the degree) preferably in Management (i.e., Strategy, Organization, Entrepreneurship, or related disciplines) and undergraduate or advanced studies in Computer Science, or in Computer Science or Information Systems and undergraduate or advanced studies in Industrial Engineering or Business.
Applicants must be researchers whose research area is related to the digital transformation of organizations, both private and public. This research area is defined as the study of information technologies that transform organizational functions, radically improving the functioning of organizations and/or society. Research might focus on operational improvements, on the creation of new innovative value for users/customers, on strategies to implement cultural changes, and/or on strategies to compete with new business models. Moreover, this research area might seek to study the technological assimilation of private and public organizations, to reduce the growing technological inequality between more and less developed societies.
Digital transformation requires a multidisciplinary effort. Therefore, it is expected that the selected applicant can collaborate with researchers who are currently conducting research at the School of Engineering, in related areas such as Industrial Engineering and Information Technology. Applicants must have a high potential for scientific productivity and the ability to work in teams. Applicants are expected to have the ability to publish in high impact journals in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, strategy, or information systems, where digital transformation is addressed in a multidisciplinary manner.
It is important to note that the research conducted by the selected applicant should have a direct or indirect impact on the development of the country and on the initiatives promoted by the Chilean State within the framework of the Presidential Instruction for Digital Transformation (https://digital.gob.cl/plan/instructivo-transformacion, in Spanish), or similar future projects. Therefore, the selected applicant is expected to be able to build bridges between the School of Engineering and other academic units, such as the School of Government.
Candidates do not need to be fluent in Spanish at the time of application, but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to teach in this language in the short term (two years maximum). Fluency in English is a requirement.
Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of academic life and the common goals of the institution. They must be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, have a genuine interest in getting involved with our graduate programs (especially the doctoral program) and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to high-quality publications, securing research grants, generating and participating in interdisciplinary projects, leading scientific and industry-liaison initiatives, strengthening and creating national and international academic networks, etc. The candidate will also be expected to create new undergraduate and graduate courses and teach traditional courses in related areas.
