Department: Computer Science - 32331 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Computer Science at University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an outstanding scholar for an appointment as Chair of the Department of Computer Science starting July 2021. We anticipate multiple new faculty hires in the next five years along with several new programs and seek a dynamic leader to move the department forward. The Computer Science Department Chair position is a full-time, permanent, tenured, 12-month position with an initial term as Chair of four years. The Department seeks a tenured Associate Professor or above with an outstanding reputation within the academic community who will bring vision and dynamic leadership to a diverse and multidisciplinary department with both undergraduate and graduate programs. To be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor level, candidates are expected to have an established record of teaching, scholarship, research, and service. Department Chair will be expected to perform the following duties:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Doctoral degree in Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : The successful candidate will demonstrate a distinguished body of scientific accomplishments in addition to experience in administrative leadership. A successful track record of recruiting, coaching, leading, mentoring, and retaining diverse teaching- and research-intensive students and faculty is highly valued. A record of collaborating effectively as evidenced by multi-disciplinary research, teaching, scholarship, and/or service is sought and well regarded. Demonstrated success creating and maintaining a collegial and inclusive learning and working environment is strongly preferred. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure. Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department is on an upward trajectory with annual research expenditures growing to an average of $1M/year over the last three years. Research strengths include machine learning and AI, biometrics, virtual reality and digital arts, computer and network security, mobile computing, and computer science education. The Department of Computer Science offers the following degree programs: The Computer Science Department currently has eighteen full-time faculty members and one visiting scholar http://uncw.edu/csc College/School Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty members and awarding approximately three quarters of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
