Portland State University's Chicano/Latino Studies Program invites applications for the position of Director of the program to begin 9/16/21. The candidate must be an Associate or Full Professor with an established reputation in Chicanx/Latinx Literary and Cultural Studies. We strongly encourage candidates specializing in one or more of the following areas to apply: Chicana/Latina Literature, Chicana/Latina feminisms, Chicana/x and Latina/x feminist epistemologies, Chicano/a/x Cultural Studies. We are open to candidates trained in the humanities, or established interdisciplinary fields. The Director will have a reduced teaching load over three quarters with the candidate teaching established courses for the CHLA program, and preparing new courses in their area of specialty. Other duties include research, teaching, and development of curricula for the CHLA program, plus institutional and professional service. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated success and ability in obtaining external research grant support. Previous administrative experience would be an advantage. Bilingual abilities in Spanish and English are a plus.
This position is part of the School of Gender, Race and Nations Cluster Hire Initiative, which is seeking applicants for seven positions across the Departments of Black Studies, Chicano/Latino Studies, Indigenous Nations Studies, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. This cluster hire initiative focuses on several broad themes:
Futurisms, transformational scholarship and regenerative justice, including, but not limited to Afro-futurism and Indigenous Futurisms
Histories of resistance, protest, and community struggle.
Critical theory, and the social and philosophical themes of liberation.
Ecology and gentrification
The ideal candidate must be an Associate or Full Professor with an established reputation in Chicanx/Latinx Literary and Cultural Studies.
Additional Salary Information: The starting annual salary for this position will be commensurate with the experience of the chosen candidate.
