NYU Buenos Aires is looking for a part-time lecturer in Art History for the course Visual Cultures in Colonial and 19th Century Latin America in the Fall 2019 Semester (Aug 26 - Dec 12). The course meets for three hours per week (which is split between two weekly sessions) at NYU Buenos Aires, for a total of 45 contact hours over the semester.

The course examines key aspects of Latin American art from the Colonial period to the early decades of the twentieth century. Through the analysis of artistic images of Mexico, Peru, Brazil and Argentina, the course discusses the role of visual representation in the process of conquest and colonization of the territory in Latin America, and later the construction and consolidation of national states and regional identities. With the alternation of guided visits to museums in Buenos Aires and classes, students will have the opportunity to learn about artistic languages, techniques, iconography, production systems, and some aspects of Latin American history.
