Department: Sociology & Criminology - 32450 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Sociology and Criminology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks outstanding faculty members for two Visiting Assistant Professor nine-month, non-tenure track positions in Sociology starting August 2021. Each position is a 2 year fixed-term appointment opportunity starting August 2021 through May 2023. These positions carry a teaching load of four courses per term. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: - Ph.D. in Sociology or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. -For both positions, ABDs will also be considered, but candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. -At least one year of experience teaching in a university setting is required. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : -The areas of expertise are open, but experience in teaching any of the following is preferred: data analysis, environmental sociology, social psychology, or health-related classes in sociology (e.g., Death and Dying, Medical Sociology). -For both positions, experience with both face-to-face and online teaching is preferred. -Demonstrated commitment or ability to contribute to fostering diversity and excellence of the campus, curriculum, or discipline is also preferred. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington has 22 full-time faculty members, roughly 350 undergraduate majors, and offers bachelor's degrees in sociology and criminology (general and public), including an online bachelor's degree in criminology, and an MA in Sociology and Criminology. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
