Department: Sociology & Criminology - 32450 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of Sociology and Criminology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Visiting Assistant Professor nine-month, non-tenure track position in Criminology starting August 2021. This position is a 2-year fixed-term appointment opportunity starting August 2021 through May 2023. This position carries a teaching load of four courses per term. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: - Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a related discipline, is required at the time of appointment. - ABDs will also be considered, but candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. A J.D. is not sufficient for this position. -At least one year of experience teaching in a university setting is required. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : - Experience in teaching data analysis, systems courses (e.g., policing, courts, corrections) or legal studies courses (e.g., criminal law) is preferred. - Experience with both face-to-face and online teaching is preferred. - Demonstrated commitment or ability to contribute to fostering diversity and excellence of the campus, curriculum, or discipline is also preferred. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington has 22 full-time faculty members, roughly 350 undergraduate majors, and offers bachelor's degrees in sociology and criminology (general and public), including an online bachelor's degree in criminology, and an MA in Sociology and Criminology. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
