Assistant Professor of Drama
University of Houston - Downtown
The Department of Arts and Communication at the University of Houston-Downtown seeks a tenure-track person as assistant professor of Drama with expertise in Latino/a/x theatre history or the history of Latinos/as in theatre and knowledge of dramatic criticism.
Teaching load is 4/3, with 3/3 load in the first year on the tenure track, and is comprised of lower and upper-level course each long semester. May act as a dramaturge for the O’Kane Theater when needed. Secondary areas of specialization may include: ancient to modern world theatre; contemporary theatre styles; American theatre history; musical theatre history; history of dramatic criticism; contemporary theatre criticism; and dramaturgy. Will also teach introductory course in theatre appreciation. The awarding of tenure requires an established record of service to the department, the university and the profession. Continued evidence of significant scholarly development and achievement is expected. Ability to work with students of varied, multi-cultural backgrounds who are non-theatre majors; excellent communication skills.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience. Additional summer teaching may be possible. EEO/AA

Qualifications Ph.D. in Theatre History or a related field. ABD’s will be considered for a one-year terminal appointment. A successful ABD candidate must complete PhD by February 1, 2022 in order to be placed on the tenure track. Screening to begin April 1st.
