Department: International Studies - 32460 Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Department of International Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking a nine-month visiting assistant professor in International Studies. This is a 2 year fixed-term appointment starting August 2021 through May 2023. The Department seeks to hire a visiting assistant professor in International Studies who specializes in International Political Economy and focuses on an area that compliments existing offerings in the department, with particular interest in development, public health, and/or the environment. Candidates with a regional focus on Latin America are especially welcome. The new faculty member will teach courses in his/her area of specialization along with introductory courses in international studies and in interdisciplinary research methods. This position carries a teaching load of 12 contact hours per semester. Selected candidates will engage in departmental meetings, committees, and special project work to further goals of the department. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Doctoral degree in International Studies, Global Studies, International Relations at the time of employment. Candidates with a Doctorate in a related field or a closely related field, will also be considered. Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered depending on expected completion date. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : The successful candidate for this position will: 1) be committed to exceptional teaching at the introductory level and upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in their specialty; 2) support the established undergraduate programs and the future graduate degree programs within the Department of International Studies. Required Certifications or Licensure: No Required Certifications or Licensure Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of International Studies offers a BA in International Studies, and a Minor in International Studies and contributes to a number of interdisplinary minors in Asia Japanese Studies, Europe, Russia and Security Studies. International Studies is presently developing an MA program in International Studies with a possible launch date in 2022 or 2023. Fundamental to UNCW's International Studies program is the mission to prepare its students to meet the many complex challenges facing our world, most of which do not fall within the strict confines of a single discipline, but rather require a broader interdisciplinary perspective. College/School Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW's largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty members and awarding approximately two-thirds of the university's academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences.
