Ferris State University’s Department of Humanities is looking to fill the position of a Level 3 Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy. This is a 9-month, full time position. Primary responsibilities include teaching core philosophy courses, such as Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Applied Ethics Bioethics and other courses, as qualified.
Faculty - Temporary & Continuing
Master’s degree in Philosophy or related area.
Required Work Experience:
Experience teaching Philosophy courses at the college level

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Ph.D. in Philosophy or related area Experience teaching Ethics and/or Medical Ethics. Experience teaching some diversity area within the philosophical tradition, such as Women and Gender Studies, Race and Racism Studies, Eastern Philosophy, Jewish Philosophy, Africana Philosophy or Latin American Philosophy
o Reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities o Primary duties include teaching interdisciplinary undergraduate courses in philosophy, such as introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Applied Ethics, Bioethics and other courses as assigned. o Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues. o Meet with classes at their scheduled times. o Post and hold office hours at a times convenient for students. o Participate in traditional functions of adjunct Level 3 instructors which have academic significance and contribute to the University and the Philosophy minor. o Assure learning through student assessment in all classes, every semester. o Remain in close consultation with the Humanities Area faculty. o Submit all syllabi to the Department of Humanities Office, every semester. o Maintain the confidentiality of designated information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies and procedures. o Work effectively with and employ strong relationship-building skills with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. o Effectively teach on-line, as needed.
