Latin American Studies Association, Inc. seeks a Staff Translator to work in Pittsburgh, PA and be responsible for the interpretation and translation (from Spanish, Portuguese and French to English, and vice versa) of all educational and administrative materials produced by the organization. Specific duties include: (i) reading/listening to material in one language, ascertaining the meaning and context of that material, and converting it into a second language while ensuring the preservation of the original meaning; (ii) compiling information and translating a variety of materials/documents from Spanish, Portuguese, and French into English, including literary, legal, research, technical, scientific, and commercial publications; (iii) providing communication and interpretation support to all LASA business units/across departments, i.e., membership, congress, publications, press/media, and the meeting planning unit; (iv) transcribing LASA executive board and administrative meeting minutes into Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English languages for publication on LASAs website; (v) communicating and responding to organizational inquiries in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English languages on all topics related to LASA membership, proposal submissions, and program offerings; and (vi) consulting with subject matter experts and other LASA colleagues to ensure a uniform understanding and translation of specialized concepts/materials across the organization.
Must have a bachelor’s degree in Translation, Interpretation, Linguistics or a directly related field, and one (1) year of experience in a related position.
Must be fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French and have (cumulatively) one year of experience translating legal and commercial documents.
