The Hispanic Studies program in the Romance Studies Department at Brandeis University seeks to appoint a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Latin American Cultural Studies to begin in the 2023-2024 academic year. This position is subject to budget approval. The field of specialization is open, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be able to develop courses across historical periods and geographies. We are particularly interested in attracting scholars whose research and teaching centers around the Caribbean, Mexico, and/or Central America as well as those whose work bridges traditional fields, such as Latin American and Latinx studies, or Iberian and Latin American studies. Demonstrated scholarship and teaching across textual, visual, performative, and media-based cultural expressions will be given preference, as faculty at Brandeis are expected to offer classes that contribute to other programs in the University. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence as a scholar and a teacher and will have the PhD in hand by fall 2023.

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential components of academic excellence. As an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, Brandeis University is committed to creating equitable access and opportunities for applicants to all employment positions. Because diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of Brandeis’ history and mission, we value and are seeking candidates with a variety of social identities, including those that have been underrepresented in higher education, who possess skills that spark innovation, and who, through their scholarly pursuits, teaching, and/or service experiences, bring expertise in building, engaging and sustaining a pluralistic, unified, and just campus community.
Applicants should submit:
? Letter of application that addresses relevant experience (see paragraph below) ? Curriculum vitae ? The names and contact information of three referees ? Writing sample ? A brief statement of teaching ? A sample course syllabus
Because Brandeis University is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of faculty effort, applicants should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter and/or the teaching statement. Candidates should also indicate how their experiences, interests, commitments or future goals could promote and build departmental and institutional pluralism, justice, or unity.
First consideration will be given to applications received by Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Letters should be addressed to James Mandrell and Fernando Rosenberg, Co-Chairs of the Search Committee. We expect to hold first interviews via Zoom in early December.
