Job DescriptionThe Boston College Libraries seeks a Liaison Librarian forHistory. Promising candidates will bring an innovative, energetic, andcollaborative approach to their work and possess advanced subject knowledge andexpertise. The Liaison Librarian will provide outstanding support to the BostonCollege History Department in all areas, including collection development,digital scholarship and data, and teaching. Individuals with a background inAfrican and African Diaspora Studies, Irish Studies, Islamic Studies andCivilization, or Latin American Studies may be offered opportunities forleadership and collaboration in the Libraries' services in one or more of theseareas. Reporting to the Head of Collections,Liaison Librarians work within a strategic cohort organization that fosterscommunication and support for instructional and research services andengagement with the Libraries' digital scholarship program.
As the primary liaison to the History department, this positionsupports research and teaching needs by leading library collection developmentand management in relevant disciplines, offering outstanding research support,providing a cohesive library instruction program, and advising on digitalscholarship and data-related initiatives. The Liaison Librarian consults withfaculty on an ongoing basis formally and informally regarding their evolvingresearch and teaching requirements and participates in faculty meetings,colloquia, and task forces as needed.
This position requires experience in selecting and managingscholarly materials, preferably for historical disciplines or area studies. TheLiaison Librarian must demonstrate knowledge of sound selection practices,awareness of scholarly publishing issues, familiarity with the issues of formatchoice, and understanding of budgetary considerations for various material types.Demonstrated experience in using technology to advance research and teaching isrequired, as well as an understanding of the evolving digital scholarshiptrends and developments in higher education, in particular as they pertain tothe field of History or humanities fields more generally. The successfulcandidate must demonstrate evidence of a working style that combinesinitiative, collaboration, and leadership, and the ability to work effectivelywith diverse groups.

Non Senior range $59,550 - $74,450, 2 years of Librarian experience
Senior range $65,800 - $82,250, 5 years of Librarian experience
RequirementsThe History Liaison position requires experience in selecting scholarly materials, preferably in
the area of History. Must demonstrate awareness of sound selection practice, awareness of
scholarly publishing issues, familiarity with the issues of format choice and understanding of
budgetary considerations for all types of materials.
This position requires demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and managing
research collections, superior oral and written communication skills, knowledge and
experience with new technologies, extensive library instruction experience. Must be able to
provide one-on-one and small group consultations.
Demonstrated experience in using technology to advance research and teaching. Strong
understanding of the evolving digital scholarship trends and developments in higher
education, in particular as it is applied to the field of History or humanities fields more
generally.
Provide demonstrated evidence of a working style that combines initiative, collaboration, and
leadership. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and a demonstrated commitment to
responsive and quality library services.
Demonstrated ability to bridge the needs and contributions of faculty, staff, and student
stakeholders who may possess wide-ranging levels of technological experience and
expertise.
