Position:

The department of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Media Theory & Criticism at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will teach Film Theory, Television Studies, Film & Television History, and create a new course in Latin American Cinema; will have research interests in diverse filmmakers, women filmmakers; and will provide mentoring to students aspiring toward an MA/PhD path.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

We are especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our department. We encourage applications from women and members of diverse groups.

Required Qualifications:

As a Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI), inclusiveness and diversity are integral to CSUN's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement. As of Fall 2020, CSUN enrolls ~40,000 students, where 56% are Latinx, 20.8% are White, 9.3% are Asian-American, 4.8% are Black/African American, 0.1% are Native American, and 0.1% are Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander. The successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.

• PhD from an accredited institution in Film-Television Studies (or related field);
• College or University-level teaching experience, both in-person and online;
• Record of scholarly publishing, e.g., book, chapter, academic or professional journal article(s);
• Evidence of culturally responsive, diverse, or inclusive pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body
• Experience creating a student-centered learning environment
• Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring
• Evidence of mentorship in student or community organizations
• Record of research on or teaching women filmmakers and Latino/a filmmakers
• Record of research or scholarship in inclusive areas for film, television, and/or new media
• Experience in physical production during their education or in other settings.
