FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Theatre and Speech at the City College of New York (CCNY) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Theatre and Speech. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in Theatre, from the following: Directing 1, Directing 2, Acting 1, Acting 2, and Speech for the Stage (Voice for the Actor), as well as direct mainstage productions.
In addition, faculty members are expected to participate in departmental and college-wide committees, service, assessment and leadership. The position includes shared responsibility for student advising, peer evaluations and departmental activities and events. The current CCNY student population hails from 153 countries, and 99 languages besides English are spoken on campus. Approximately 32 percent are Hispanic, 22 percent African American, 22 percent Asian, and 24 percent White. Our department is located in Harlem. We are a close-knit community of approximately 200 majors, and we also serve the college undergraduate body as a whole with our General Education classes.
The Department of Theatre and Speech serves a vibrant and international group of over 225 Majors and Minors (as well as committed non-Theatre Majors), and annually produces a season of four faculty-directed shows, four student-directed shows, a One-Act Festival and a new play festival.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts or Ph.D. in Theatre or in a related area of practice. The candidate should have at least two years of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Conversant in theatre history and contemporary professional practices
Specialty in Latine and/or Black Theatre a plus
VACCINE REQUIREMENT:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range : $52,267 - $86,645

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
