The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a Lecturer in American Sign Language (ASL) who will develop and teach in-person courses in the area of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture, initially at the 100- and 200- levels of the undergraduate curriculum.

This part-time term faculty position is a 62.5% full-time equivalent (FTE), 9-month position with an initial 1-year term.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Masterâs degree in ASL or a related area
Experience teaching sign language, interpreting or related courses at a postsecondary institution
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to instruct upper-division language and content courses
Demonstrated commitment to enhance diversity and inclusion

The Department of World Languages and Cultures is the central resource at Iowa State University for the teaching, research, and study of cultures in and through their native languages from a global perspective. The department offers 9 languages with majors in French, German, and Spanish and minors in those languages plus Russian and Chinese. A major and minor and graduate degree are also offered in Anthropology. Other languages taught are American Sign Language, Arabic, Italian, Latin and Portuguese. It also houses the American Indian Studies Program, Classical Studies Program, International Studies Program and U.S. Latino/a Studies Program. The departmentâs award-winning tenure-stream faculty engage in internationally recognized research across a variety of disciplines.Â
