Overview
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies is seeking a talented Assistant Director to manage office operations and staff; hire, train, prioritize assignments, review work and evaluate performance. Develop and implement office policies and procedures. Assist the director with academic program activities; advise current and prospective undergraduate and graduate candidates on program requirements, courses, policies and procedures; monitor students' progress. Oversee and develop the center's education and outreach programs including directing the planning and administration of events and activities. Develop grant proposals; identify and investigate current funding opportunities. Plan and implement events. Manage departmental budget, including grant accounts. Assist director with recruitment activities for students, faculty and visiting scholars.
Responsibilities
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in field of Social Sciences or Humanities relevant to Latin American and/or Caribbean matters.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree or Ph.D.
Required Experience: 5+ years relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must include experience with staff supervision, fundraising, budget administration, managing special events, and counseling and/or advising experience.
Preferred Experience: Experience in an academic environment. Experience with Interdisciplinary Area Studies, Title VI NRC/FLAS coordination, secondary school outreach activities, a plus.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications (e.g. HTML). Oral and written fluency in Spanish required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Fluency in Portuguese or another language of the region a plus.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $65,000.00 to USD $85,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
