The Asociación de Interés Público Centro de Investigaciones Históricas Antropológicas y Culturales (CIHAC AIP) is a research center affiliated with the Ministry of Culture with the mission of studying Panamanian culture, history, and cultural heritage in order to promote cultural rights, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and the protection of Panamanian cultural heritage. For this reason, CIHAC AIP is constituted as a Public Interest Association, which are non-profit legal persons, that carry activities that have not yet been developed in the country or have been insufficiently developed, and whose realization is of national interest.

Director Duties: (1) Uphold and improve the position of CIHAC AIP as a leading research center on Panamanian history, culture and heritage. (2) Capitalize on the reputation for excellence that the CIHAC AIP has earned to increase its visibility and global impact. (3) Create alliances and joint actions with national and international institutions and organizations that share the CIHAC AIP’s mission and objectives.  (4) Maintain and strengthen an environment that attracts the best scientists, and sets CIHAC AIP as a leader in research on Panamanian past, heritage and culture. (5) Develop CIHAC AIP’s relationship with leaders from the private sector, the Panamanian government, and academic and cultural organizations. (6) In collaboration with CIHAC AIP Board of Directors, identify and cultivate a group of benefactors and/or donors who will ensure that CIHAC AIP has access to the philanthropic support and expertise that it needs to thrive. (7) Lead the formulation of the vision of the CIHAC AIP work plans. (8) Strengthen programs for public access to scientific knowledge. (9) Prepare and present to the Board of Directors the center´s annual budget and the investment plan, execute contracts and incur obligations up to the sum of one hundred thousand balboas (B/.100,000.00), and supervise technical issues related to the activities, research and operation of the CIHAC AIP. (10) Ensure compliance with institutional policies and the guidelines of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly. (11) Other assigned functions associated with the position.

(1) Have a PhD in history, or anthropology, or ethnomusicology, or archaeology, or art history, or other disciplines dedicated to the study of culture, history and heritage. (2) An international trajectory of research and publications in the study of the Panamanian past, culture or heritage, from disciplines such as history, anthropology, ethnomusicology, archaeology, art history or other related disciplines. (3) Proven experience in scientific administration such as management and administration of research projects, and/or training of new scientific talent. (4) Spoken and written proficiency in Spanish and a second language, preferably English. (4) Copy of three relevant scientific publications (can be a combination of academic articles and book chapters). (5) Three (3) letters of professional references.
