The Department of Anthropology at Rice University (Houston, Texas), in partnership with the Center for African and African American Studies (CAAAS), invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin July 1, 2024. We seek an archaeologist focused on the African Diaspora in the Americas (North, Central, or South America) including the Caribbean. Areas of expertise may include: plantation societies, or other contexts of enslavement; maroon societies; the material culture of enslavement and/or post-emancipation life; more historically recent African diasporic communities; Caribbean Studies; and community-engaged and public archaeology.
