The department of Music, at the University of California, Riverside, expects to hire a candidate for a part-time Lecturer position in Latin American Music Ensemble. The successful candidate should have experience teaching courses on the performance of music from Latin America, which could include one or more musical styles from Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and South America, for music and non-music major undergraduates. The successful candidate will be able to perform one or more instruments and understand the musical forms and performance practices of at least two musical traditions of these regions. The candidate will be able to historically and culturally contextualize the musical traditions and convey musical concepts and terminologies to both musicians and non-musicians.
Position: Part-time Lecturer
Starting Date: Spring Quarter 2024 begins Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Instruction begins Monday, April 1, 2024, and ends Friday, June 7, 2024. The quarter will end Friday, June 14, 2024.
Salary: Based on 100% annual salary of $66,259. Approximately $7,362.11 per course (pending final budget approval). Appointment is eligible for renewal depending on need, funding and performance.
All appointments are contingent upon the appointee being able to provide, in accord with Federal law, evidence of authorization to work in the United States. Internal candidates will be given first consideration.
Duties: Teach one undergraduate course. The course is scheduled for a 3-hour window, exact date/time TBD. This course has a maximum enrollment of 50 students. Preparing and leading a public performance is highly encouraged.
Qualifications: MA or MFA degree in Music. Two years of experience teaching at the college level or the equivalent of leading professional and or community-oriented ensembles is required.
Three years of experience teaching at the college level preferred. Strong commitment to teaching excellence
