Position Overview
The Department of Classics at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a start date of August 15, 2025. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching center on race, ethnicity, or gender in ancient Greek and Roman religions, including these religions interactions with other ancient religious systems. Candidates should be ready to teach ancient Greek and/or Latin at all levels in addition to graduate seminars, Classics undergraduate courses, and general education offerings. The successful candidate will contribute as a scholar and teacher to OSUs lively cross-departmental doctoral program in ancient Mediterranean religions and the Departments focus on race, ethnicity, and gender, as well as Ohio States Center for the Study of Religion.

Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Candidates must have their PhD in Classics, Religion, or a related field by August 15, 2025. Desired: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSUs Shared Values (see below).

Department Information
The Department of Classics has particular strengths in ancient religion and myth down to the Middle Ages; literary critical readings of antiquity from various theoretical perspectives; epigraphy and Latin paleography, advanced also by the Center for Epigraphical and Palaeographical Studies; the study of race, ethnicity and gender; and the diachronic Greek tradition, ranging from the Bronze Age to Byzantium and Modern Greece. It is one of few Departments that host a Modern Greek Program, which offers courses in language, literature, and contemporary culture, including the Greek-American Diaspora.
