Brief Job Overview/Summary
The Sociology and Anthropology Program at Stockton University seeks a tenure-track faculty member in Sociology to teach 3 courses per semester, including required core program courses and electives focused on social inequality. Research/teaching specialties sought: Black, Latinx, Asian, or Indigenous Sociology in areas such as Urban Studies, Migration/Space/Place, Social Movements/Abolition, Education, and/or Environmental Sociology/Sustainability.
As an interdisciplinary program, Sociology/Anthropology prioritizes learning goals in Research Skills, Writing/ Communication, Understanding Inequality, and Community Engagement. In addition to a joint Sociology/Anthropology major with concentrations and minors in multiple subfields, the program offers a 4+1 dual degree option for a BA in Sociology and MA in American Studies. Courses may be cross-listed in Africana Studies, Latin American/Caribbean Studies, Sustainability, Victimology, Women's, Gender or Sexuality Studies, or other programs according to interest. The successful candidate will also teach General Studies courses, and may be able to teach one or more graduate courses on topics in their specialty.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach Required Core program courses: Introduction to Sociology, Social Research Methods. Additional core courses may include Field Methods (Qualitative/Ethnography), Social Theory, Senior Seminar, Senior Portfolio
Teach Elective program courses. Candidates should be prepared to teach some combination of the following:
Urban Environments/Gentrification/Space & Place
Black Lives
WEB DuBois Seminar
Latinx/Asian/Native/Indigenous Sociology
Migration/Borders and Sanctuary
Sociology of Empire/Colonialism/Neo-/Post-Colonialism
