The Coordinator of the Center for Student Diversity provides administrative, thought, and managerial leadership for the Center for Student Diversity (within the Office of Inclusion) and Towson University with an emphasis on acting as a support and advocate to the campus community. Under the supervision of the Director, the Coordinator of the Center for Student Diversity ensures that services and initiatives are provided that contribute to and address the intellectual, social, and developmental needs of all students as well as their cultural awareness of identities other than their own. This position will also work collaboratively with the rest of the Office of Inclusion team to educate the campus community about social structures and assist in creating a healthy, inclusive campus climate that affirms all people and their right to exist and thrive. Advocacy for belonging, inclusion, and social justice is a major aspect of this position
Responsibilities for the Coordinator of the Center for Student Diversity include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and execute strategies to create a more inclusive campus climate for the campus community through advocacy for campus-wide racial equity and social justice; advising cultural student organizations (ex: African Diaspora Club, Black Student Union, Ujima [or] Latin American Student Association, Pasion, Association of Latino Professionals For America - College Chapter) and implementing educational, developmental, and sociocultural programs and events that advance campus inclusion, address systemic barriers facing the campus community, and foster on- and off-campus partnerships that strengthen the work of belonging, inclusion, equity, and cultural competency throughout campus using an intersectional framework.
- Collaborate with a broad range of on-campus entities, including student organizations, the Office of Student Activities, Counseling Center, Career Center, Health Center, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Student Success Programs, Alumni Alliances, faculty & staff affinity groups, and other institutional partners, to create and execute a calendar of programs and activities that focus on issues faced by students and overall student development
- Hire and supervise a graduate assistant who will support the overall vision of creating a more inclusive and diverse campus community, to include managing programs and events, assisting in advising duties, conducting trainings and workshops, etc.
- Represent the Office of Inclusion on departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees; maintain collaborative partnerships with interdisciplinary departments; and initiate co-sponsorship opportunities across the University
- Assist with other duties within the Center for Student Diversity and the Office of Inclusion, as assigned
