The Intercollegiate Department of Chicanx-Latinx Studies at the Claremont Colleges and the History Department at Pomona College invite applications for one-year visiting assistant professor position (2025-26) in Latin American history, with a specialty in the history of Mexico. The visitor will be responsible for teaching five courses over the year, including Latin America before Independence (Colonial Latin America),â Latin American Since Independence,â History of Mexico,â and two others. A Ph.D. in history or Chicana/o-Latina/a Studies is preferred, but we also welcome applications from Ph.D. candidates (ABD) in history or a closely related field.
Pomona College is the founding member of the Claremont Colleges (Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona, and Scripps), liberal arts colleges located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Pomona College and the Departments of Chicanx-Latinx Studies and History support equal access to higher education. This position is not eligible for travel and moving expenses. Employment is contingent upon providing proof of the legal right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 for the duration of the contract, July 1, 2025 until June 30, 2026. The salary range is $71,000-$76,000 and is commensurate with experience.
