Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the field of Latino/a Studies beginning in August 2026. Latin American and Latino/a Studies (LALS) is an interdisciplinary academic program at Seton Hall, vital to the University’s Mission and Strategic Plan. The position is an interdisciplinary hire open to candidates from the humanities, with a preference for a scholar from the social sciences, including anthropology, political science, and sociology. The intersectional nature of Latino/a Studies should be reflected in the candidate’s educational and scholarly trajectory. Candidates will be screened by an interdisciplinary search committee. Each candidate will also meet and receive the approval of the department into which they would be hired.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be appointed as an assistant professor in one of the departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. Potential “home” departments include the Department of Political Science and Public and Affairs; the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice; and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The teaching load is 9 credits (3 courses) per semester, taught in-person on the South Orange Campus, and the load will ordinarily be split between undergraduate courses at different levels in the home department and LALS.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda in Latino/a and studies with consistent publications and grant submissions appropriate to their fields of study.
The successful candidate will also work with the Director of the Latin American and Latino/a Studies program to build the program’s curriculum, participate in student recruitment events and activities, and strengthen the program’s connections to students and neighboring communities. The successful candidate will regularly teach an introductory course in Latino/a Studies as well as upper-level courses in Latino/a Studies that support the Latin American and Latino Studies Program.

It is preferred that applicants have a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree by the time of the appointment.

$64,900-$76,700
