The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) at Johns Hopkins University is seeking applications for its next Associate Director for Multicultural Affairs (MA). Reporting to the Director of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion, this position will: 1) provide strategic oversight over initiatives, events, and issues related to diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs); 2) supervise an Assistant Director, two Graduate Assistants, and student staff to plan and implement student engagement, retention, and success initiatives; 3) support institution-facing initiatives and work groups; and 4) establish project management and workflow processes for area operations and supervision.
The Associate Director for Multicultural Affairs will work primarily to support diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs) at Johns Hopkins, including but not limited to Black/African American, Latine/x, Indigenous, and Asian/Pacific Islander students, while also serving as a resource for the entire campus community. The Associate Director will also partner with other campus leaders to design and implement programs that elevate intersectional identities, such as life design, student success, international services, disability services, etc. To that end, the Associate Director must be able to proactively form partnerships and initiatives across the university campus.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy & Execution (30%)
Oversee a department that serves as the connector for services, education, and leadership programs related to students from underrepresented groups.
Under the supervision of the Director of Diversity & Inclusion, establish a strategy for including staffing, budget, research, and policy support based on the needs of students across the university.
Develop and manage student retention, belonging, and engagement initiatives, priorities, and benchmarks, including a timeline and assessment framework for execution.
Provide leadership in developing programs and services that promote the academic, personal, and professional achievement of students and actively create a safer campus climate.
Work with the Director for Strategic Communications to develop social media strategy to increase awareness of resources and communicate the impact of events, programs, and initiatives.
Generate reports and procedures regarding the overall department, its offerings, needs, trainings, initiatives, etc.
Staff Supervision & Budget Implementation (30%)
Supervise and support the professional development of one Assistant Director and two Graduate Assistants.
Work with staff members to set annual goals and perform ongoing and annual reviews of performance and completion of goals.
Indirectly supervise 40+ student staff in various positions, including interns, mentors, and facilitators.
Provide leadership for the development and management of annual and quarterly budgets.
Seek alternative funding opportunities (e.g., grants, development) for the initiatives.
Student Advising & Advocacy (20%)
Serve as a hub and connector for multicultural student organizations.
Advise students in small group and individual settings.
Facilitate timely referrals with appropriate campus resources.
Serve as a primary resource and support for students from diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs).
Conduct ongoing assessment of students' needs, campus climate and office services.
Institutional Support (20%)
Serve on university-wide work groups, task forces, and advisory councils, as needed.
Serve as a collaborator and team member within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) in the planning and implementation of institutional events and initiatives.
Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for campus administrators, faculty, and staff regarding policy development especially on matters relating to diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs).
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree with an advanced degree preferred.
At least five years in a higher education setting.

Candidate should be able to demonstrate successful leadership and program administration.
Additional qualifications should include a demonstrated progressive administrative experience in programming and advocacy for women, femme, queer, and trans students, demonstrated experience with collaboration, community organizing and supervision of volunteers and undergraduate and graduate students.
Experience working with diverse communities, including graduate students, international students, diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs), disabled students, women and femmes, LGBTQ+ students, etc.
The Associate Director should have knowledge of current literature and research in diverse and underrepresented racial groups (URGs).
Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the attainment of divisional and institutional goals and objectives.
