The Economics Department is a dynamic unit within Rice's School of Social Sciences that has hired over a dozen outstanding scholars in recent years and is committed to pathbreaking research and outstanding teaching. Houston is a cosmopolitan and diverse city, characteristics that are reflected in the university, including academic resources in women and gender issues, African and African American studies, Latinx and Latin American studies, and Asian studies, as well as the Baker Institute for Public Policy, the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, the Texas Policy Lab, and interdisciplinary efforts like the Collective for Research on Inequality and Social Equity.
