The Tata-Cornell Institute for Agriculture and Nutrition (TCI), housed in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' Department of Global Development, Cornell University, is a long-term research initiative focused on solving problems of poverty, malnutrition, and rural development in India. TCI was established with a generous gift from the Tata Trust to conduct multidisciplinary research, and to facilitate research grants and fellowships to prominent student and professional researchers at Cornell, in India, and across the globe. The TCI team works alongside partner institutions in India and globally to address the agriculture-nutrition nexus.
What you will do
This position will work directly under the supervision of the Assistant Director to:
- Work on the TCI- Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement project (ILCI) at Cornell University
- Aid in the development of the methodology for evaluation of institutional capacity of breeding programs funded by the ILCI.
- Assist in the design, plan and conduct of fieldwork in Africa and Latin America in partner National Agricultural Research Institutions.
- Clean, analyze and manage the data collected in the field for analysis and summation.
- Write research reports; review research literature; conduct library/internet searches; select/recommend collected research data/information in accordance aims of the research.
- Assist immediate supervisor in preparing research reports, PowerPoint Presentations for TCI seminars/presentations, dissemination of findings.
- Attend and participate in meetings and workshops hosted by ILCI.
This is a one-year term position. Renewal for one additional year is possible based on performance and the availability of funding.
What We Need
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in applied economics, nutrition, food policy, international development or related field with two years of work experience or advanced coursework.
- Ability to create an inclusive high quality and respectful work environment.
- Consistently exercise sound and ethical judgment when working on behalf of the department and Cornell University.
- Must have solid understanding of the research process, and possess related skills, tools, techniques, and formal approaches.
- Requires excellent interpersonal, analytical, written, and oral communication skills. Must be comfortable with public speaking and building relationships. Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
- Strong orientation to detail, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and problem solving.
- Must be personable, flexible, possess excellent organizational and communications skills (both written and oral), and take pride in his/her work.
- Proven proficiency in MS Office and statistical software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in international development context and/or fieldwork in resource-limited settings.
- Master's degree in applied economics, nutrition, food policy, international development or related field with two years of work experience or advanced coursework.
Relocation and visa sponsorship is not avaiable for this position.
