Description The Philosophy Department at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin August 1, 2026. This is a full-time, one-year position with a teaching load of five courses over two semesters. Candidates will teach two courses in the fall, and three courses in the spring. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach both Philosophy of Race & Racism and Philosophy of Law.
Minimum requirements: Candidates with a Ph.D. by August 2026 are strongly preferred but ABD will be considered. The successful candidate will have AOC in Philosophy of Law, or Philosophy of Race & Racism, or Political Philosophy, and will be able to contribute courses to HWS's interdisciplinary programs which include Africana Studies, Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, and Law & Society.

With three graduate programs, students can build on their undergraduate degree with a Master of Arts in Higher Education Leadership, Master of Arts in Teaching, or a Master of Science in Management. Qualifications
Application Instructions Applicants should submit the following required materials via Interfolio: cover letter; CV; a statement of teaching philosophy with evidence of teaching effectiveness and attention to inclusivity in the classroom; and the names, titles, and three confidential professional letters of recommendation.
