SVSU invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Art History to begin July 1, 2026. Applicants must hold both a Ph.D. in Art History (with an emphasis in contemporary African, Asian, or Latin American Art) and an MFA (with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, and/or Printmaking). Teaching responsibilities (24 credit hours/year) may include General Education art appreciation and history courses, upper-division Art History courses by period, geographic area, or medium (photography, graphic design, etc.), as well as Studio Courses based on the candidate’s area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in departmental service, including recruitment and retention initiatives. Additionally, an active program of scholarly and creative activity is expected.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Art History, with an emphasis in contemporary African, Asian, or Latin American Art
Earned MFA from an accredited institution in Studio Art (with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, and/or Printmaking)
One or more years of university teaching experience
Experience teaching and mentoring a broad spectrum of undergraduate students
Proven record of scholarly and creative activity
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
