The American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our vibrant academic community with a focus on “Americas and the MENA Region.” This position offers an exceptional opportunity for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of the Americas and the Middle East and North Africa. We seek a scholar who will advance knowledge on the historical, intellectual, cultural, and socio-economic connections between these two critical regions.
Position Overview
The position encourages research that is both comparative and interdisciplinary, spanning the fields of history, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Cultural Studies, and Women's Studies among others. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment at the Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) and the Department of History and Archaeology. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research addresses one or more of the following areas: diasporas/migration/refugee studies, cultural exchange and representation, comparative social and religious movements, political activism, among others. Candidates whose projects rely on the archival materials and collections of the AUB Jafet Library are particularly encouraged to apply. The search is open exclusively to candidates who do not currently hold a professorial rank at any institution.
Duration: 1 year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.
Location: American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
Requirements
A Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, Latin American Studies, History, Sociology, or a related discipline.
A demonstrated research interest in the Americas and the MENA region.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Knowledge of Arabic and/or Spanish is an asset.
Duties
Teach two undergraduate courses throughout the year that may be cross listed under American Studies and History
Hold one public lecture (Fall Semester) organized by CASAR
Participate in the Thamarat al Funun Colloqium organized by the Department of History and Archaeology (Spring Semester)
